JTF Conduct Successful Anti Crude oil Theft Operation, in Rivers State

The Joint Task Force, codenamed, “Operation Delta Safe (OPDS)”, on Monday says Operation Delta safe Quick Response Force (QRF) have conducted successful operations targeting illegal refining and bunkering activities in Port-Harcourt, Rivers.

This was stated in a statement signed an issued to newsmen in Yenagoa, by the JTF Commander Rear Adm. John Okeke.

According to the Commander, Acting on intelligence report the HQ OPDS QRF intercepted and apprehended a suspect transporting stolen crude oil.

The statement stated that the suspect was driving an open-body truck covered with Tampoline along Abuloma Road.

“The truck was found to be carrying 28 containers, each with a capacity of 1000 litres, totalling 28,000 litres of crude oil.

“The truck and its contents were immediately secured and subsequently handled in accordance with OPDS SOP.

“Furthermore, following another intelligence report, the HQ OPDS QRF conducted anti-illegal bunkering operation in the Elele general area of Port Harcourt.

“During this operation, the team intercepted a tanker truck laden with approximately 20,000 litres of stolen crude oil,” the statement reads.

The JTF Commander, said that the tanker and its contents were seized and handled in line with OPDS procedures. In total, the HQ OPDS QRF successfully handled two trucks and seized approximately 48,000 litres of stolen crude oil during these operations.

“Additionally, four suspects were apprehended in connection with the crimes.

The Commander, reaffirms its commitment to combating oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta region.

He added that these operations are part of OPDS’s ongoing efforts to safeguard national resources and ensure security in the region.
