Attempt To Separate Governor Diri And Sen Dickson

Story by Ovie smith yenagoa

Evidently, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State is not only rankled by the achievements of Governor Douye Diri in the last three and half years and counting. It is equally befuddled by the peace, conviviality and genial atmosphere in the governor’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Worried by the confusion in their party occasioned by the non-acceptance of its governorship candidate, both within and without, the APC in the state is working hard to sow imaginary seeds of discord in the unified PDP.

How else does one situate the Facebook post credited to a faceless group trying to cause disaffection between Governor Diri and his predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, ahead of the November 11 governorship election?

Over time, the Bayelsa APC has shown it is not a lover of peace and unity. No wonder the party is now in disarray. Can two work together unless they agree? Never!

In the online article, the APC again deployed its tactless and poorly couched strategy to pitch both respected PDP leaders against each other.

It is a truism that Senator Dickson and Governor Diri have a great and chummy relationship. To the chagrin of the APC, all indicators point to the fact that the former Governor is resolutely backing the re-election bid of Governor Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The Governor and his Deputy, like an unbroken cord, have equally been according due regard and respect to their former boss and former Governor of the state.

So, in the absence of a rift, the APC creates an imaginary discord. Without doubt, the social media post represents the figment of the warped imagination of those behind the evil machination. They are merely a group of unworthy naysayers.

To their pain, Senator Dickson has played and will again play a very active role in the re-election campaigns of Governor Diri and his Prosperity Administration.

The political weight of Senator Dickson continues to threaten the APC endlessly. This is bolstered by a united PDP, which is solidly behind the Governor and his Deputy unlike the APC that is fragmented across the eight Local Government Areas.

The Bayelsa PDP remains a united front and it was in this spirit that the party achieved over 85 per cent electoral success in the last general election. With the same vigour, the party will coast home to victory in the November governorship poll.
