The Nigerian Navy ship (NNS) SOROH has given free medical services to over 1,000 residents in Toru-orua community in Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa

The Commander, NNS SOROH, Commodore Nanmar Lakan, said during the exercise in Toru-Orua, that the essence was to promote cooperation with the host community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Toru-Orua is the home town of former Gov. Seriake Dickson, who is now the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

The Commander, said that the outreach was part of the navy’s corporate social responsibility to the people.

According to him, it is with great honor and privilege that I stand before you today as the Commander of NNS SOROH, to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy in a truly meaningful way.

“Today, we gather not only to celebrate our proud history but also to extend a helping hand to our fellow citizens who have accommodated the NN to ensure it achieves her constitutional role.

“As we embark on this free medical Rhapsody, we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being and prosperity of every Nigerian. Health is fundamental to human existence.

“Therefore, as part of its Cooperate Social Responsibility, the Nigerian Navy deems it fit in ensuring that quality healthcare reaches every corner of our nation. Hence, the Toru-Orua community was selected for this year’s outreach.

“The Toru-Orua community in Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa, holds a special place in our hearts, and it is fitting that we begin our commemoration here. Today, we bring not only medical expertise but also compassion, care and solidarity,” he said.

He urged the residents to take full advantage of the opportunity. Saying that they should take health matters seriously by seeking medical care.

“To the dedicated medical personnel and volunteers who have made this event possible, I extend my deepest gratitude.

“Your selfless service embodies the spirit of the Nigerian Navy, and your contributions will leave a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

On his part, during a courtesy call to former Gov. Seriake Dickson, in his residence, he commented the Nigerian Navy for the free medical services brought to his community. My community is Naval friendly.

He that when he was the governor, that he was advised to build a Naval facility to enable them provide more surveillance on the Western flank in Bayelsa.

According to him, the Navy in his community are doing a good job and doing their beat in adding to the security of the waterways.

On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Toru-Orua, King Gusline Tounaregha, commented the Navy for choosing their community for the free medical services.

He said he was tested and administer free medication, as he said that he never knew he has high blood pressure.

One of the beneficiaries Mrs Grace Adumo, commented the Navy for the free medical services to the people of Toru-Orua. (NAN)
